Over the last few years, with our increased participation in oil exploration and production in American waters, we have formed partnerships with some of the largest oil companies in the world.
In the United States, we also have activities in the trading segment, marketing oil and other products, and we have operated in the refining segment since 2008, after the acquisition of Pasadena Refining System, Inc. Located in Texas, a refinery with a processing capacity of 100,000 barrels per day.
High technology in the Gulf of Mexico
In early 2012, we started producing at the Cascade field, by means of Cascade 4, drilled to a depth of about 8,000 meters. The well is connected to BW Pioneer, the first FPSO to produce oil and gas in the American portion of the Gulf of Mexico.
The vessel platform is capable of processing 80,000 barrels of oil and 500,000 cubic meters of gas per day and can store 500,000 barrels of oil. Its anchoring system is detachable, allowing the vessel to be moved to sheltered areas during hurricanes and storms, thus affording safety to the crew and to the environment and preserving the equipment.
In addition to the FPSO, oil transportation by means of shuttle tankers and the use of self-sustainable submerged pumps and risers (submarine outflow lines) are among the innovations we are introducing in the region.
