New company
We signed an agreement to create a new company to transport ethanol.
We entered into a shareholders agreement, on Tuesday (03/01), which creates Logum Logística S.A. The company, which is expected to begin its operations in late 2012, will be responsible for implementing a multimodal ethanol transport and storage system in Brazil.
Logum will be in charge of building, developing, and operating the logistics, of loading, unloading, handling, and storage, over and beyond of port and waterway terminal operation. The system will encompass a polyduct, waterways, roads, and coastal shipping.
This new logistics structure will contribute to environmental conservation and to the road network. According to Logum CEO, Alberto Guimarães, "when we reach full capacity, it will be possible to reduce our customers' road costs by 20% and to slash 7,000 tons/year in CO2 emissions." The company will also provide flexibility to customers, who may have more than one point of sale.
The new company's capital will initially be R$100 million. The ownership breakdown of Logum's authorized capital closed corporation is:
Petrobras 20%
Copersucar S.A. 20%
Cosan S.A. Indústria e Comércio 20%
Odebrecht Transport Participações S.A. 20%
Camargo Correa Óleo e Gás S.A. 10%
Uniduto Logística S.A. 10%.
The combination of the pipeline and waterway modals aims at streamlining ethanol transportation and at achieving lower costs. The integrated system will extend over a wide network of pipelines to the states of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. From these terminals, the ethanol will be taken directly to the service stations by means of short-distance road transport.
To make sure the ethanol will get to other markets in Brazil, by means of cabotage, the flow system will reach the marine terminals on the coast of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. The system will also speed-up the ethanol exports process.
The project, when completed, will have an installed capacity to transport up to 21 million cubic meters of ethanol per year. Upwards of 10,000 direct and indirect jobs will be created.
Most of the system will be constructed using existing pipeline passage areas. This measure will allow the development to have less impact on local populations and native vegetation. Furthermore, the project will reduce traffic on the major highways and in areas of high vehicle circulation in urban centers. This characteristic of the new system will afford a reduction in the number of trucks on the highways and less wear of the roads, increased security and agility, and lower emissions.
