Natural gas is the cleanest fossil fuel among those that are used in the world. Burning it emits extremely low amounts of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and particulate material (combustion process residues) in its fumes. Versatile, it can be used in domestic, industrial and automotive applications substituting for gasoline, ethanol and diesel fuel.
Keeping pace with the global trend of using cleaner fuels, we have invested in expanding the distribution network and in new technologies that drive natural gas offer and consumption.
Our goal is to increase the natural gas offer from 24.8 million m3/day, in 2006, to 73 million m3/day in 2011 and to surpass the 100 million m3/day mark in 2015. To do so, we will invest R$21.5 billion in gas exploration and use projects, and R$11.4 billion in boosting the gas pipeline network.
